Tiger Team Members Only

In the past, members from the Student Council, now known as The Tiger Team, have volunteered to help out at Pizza Bingo.

Mrs. Grace, an NSS parent, has requested that we reach out to the Tiger Team and ask the students if they would like to volunteer their time and help at PIZZA BINGO.  This would include helping with collecting/passing out desserts and cleaning up, among other things.

Volunteers are needed for:

Wednesday January 25

Thursday, January 26

The event starts at 5:45.

Parents/Guardians of interested Tiger Team members should contact Mrs. Grace at the following email address ljgrace@optonline.net .  Be sure to include the date(s) your child is available, as well as any questions that you may have.  The next Tiger Team Meeting is TUESDAY –  Jan. 24, 2012 at 8:15 in the LMC.

TIGER TEAM sponsors Hats off to Readers are Leaders

Tiger team is collecting “old” baseball type caps.  We are sponsoring Hats off to Readers are Leaders on the Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.    All students will be involved in a project involving the cap and the Readers are Leaders program.  We need 500 caps- one for each student.  We will wash all caps and they will not be returned to you.  If you have any old caps hanging around that you would like to donate we would love to have them.  It doesn’t matter what the logo on the cap is (as long as it is appropriate).  We plan to cover it.  There will be a box in the hallway outside the main office or bring to Ms. Josovitz.    If you have any questions please contact Ms. Josovitz or Mrs. Kassay.

NSS Readers are Leaders

Out of this World! Take-off for RAL 2012 is Monday, January 23, 2012; the count-down is on.  Readers are Leaders is a 6-week reading incentive program. The program is designed to promote the importance of reading as a means for developing lifelong learning and to see that individual efforts contribute toward a school goal of number of days read. Children in Grades K-2 read (or are read to) for 10 min/day above and beyond their school day. Children in Grades 3-5 read 20 min/day. Incentives are given throughout the 6 weeks as individual goals are met and the program’s success is celebrated school-wide.   See this flyer for more information and a reading log template.  Questions, contact the NSS Readers are Leaders team at NSSreadersareleaders@gmail.com Susanna Clavelli – Jackie Gallagher – Reini Knorr

NSS Auction 2012

Auction 2012 is quickly approaching.  We’ll be having a blast at the ECC on March 24th before you know it. There’s still plenty of time to donate an auction item or purchase a sponsorship.  All information can be found at www.nsspta.org/auction.  Since we’re looking for 100% participation, expect a personal call in the next week or two to solidify how you can help.  If you have any questions contact Pamela Fink pamelafink@yahoo.com or Mark Sudikoff mark.sudikoff@yahoo.com.

Fuel For Learning Partnership January Healthy Lunch Advisory

PARENTS BE AWARE OF CHANGES TO THE ALTERNATE LUNCHES
Please be advised that the January lunch menu features pizza, chicken nuggets, and popcorn chicken as alternate lunches for four of the five weeks of the month. These foods can be higher in fat and sodium, and less nutritious than other lunch options being served, and are widely considered “sometimes” foods rather than “every day” foods. If the possibility of your child eating these foods every day for four weeks is a concern, please be advised that this will be an option and consider discussing with your child the other available choices.

How To Parent A Child With Nonverbal Learning Disabilities

On Tuesday, January 24th, from 7 – 9 p.m. psychologist Dr. Marcia Eckerd will provide strategies on how to parent a child with NLD (nonverbal learning disabilities), who may learn to read and memorize with ease, yet face challenges in social, organization, motor skills and skills such as writing and math. She will discuss how to handle these children’s lack of flexibility and cope with social challenges, including their tendency to miss social signals and their vulnerability to being misunderstood, taken advantage of or bullied. At the Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road.  To register for this free program email programs@smartkidswith LD.org or call 203-226-6703.  (see this flyer for more info)
