SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson

It was great having a full five days of school this week.  Hopefully we will not have any more snow!  It was also great seeing so many great math enthusiasts at Tuesday’s Math Night.  A special thanks to our great Mrs. Karas and the wonderful parents who helped run this important event.  We are looking forward to seeing many of you at next week’s conferences.

Math Night

Thank you to all those who attended Math Night. What a great group of mathematicians we have here at NSS! A big thank you to Heather Lotstein for helping coordinate Math Night as well as Adam Kuhr for his assistance. Thank you to Bonnie Liang for the fantastic signs and decorations. It really made for a fun “math playground.”  -Mrs. Karas

Celebration Books

As part of March Literacy Month, we are offering Celebration Books in the Library. If you would like to donate a book to the library in honor of a teacher, a child’s birthday or any other celebration, please see below. All Celebration Books will be labeled with a Dedication Plate at the front of the book. There are two ways to choose a Celebration Book.
1. You suggest a book you know your child will enjoy.
a. Fill out the form (either the print form attached or this Google Form) to get book approval from Mrs. Callahan
b. You purchase the book and send it in
c. The Library staff will add the Dedication Plate and your child will be the first to check it out
d. Your child’s photo with the book will be put on the Celebration Book Wall
2. Need an idea: Here is a list of books we would love to have. Then follow the steps above, including the approval form to let us know your choice.

PTA NEWS

A Big Thank You to….

Mrs. Karas, Mr. Onkerko, Heather Lotstein, Adam Kuhr, Bonnie Liang and everyone responsible for making math night a success!

NSS Walk-A-Thon

NSS is bringing back the Walk-A-Thon! Mark your calendars, the Walk-A-Thon will be held on Friday May 19th (rain date Monday May 22nd). We need volunteers! Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to volunteer. Any questions or if you would like to sponsor please contact the Walk-A-Thon committee at kellyanntakacs@yahoo.com. Stay tuned for more info! Please see flyer here.

PTA Volunteer Opportunities

The PTA is looking for a few more volunteers to help us make the 2017-2018 the best one yet at NSS.  A few of the current openings include 5th Grade Committee, PTA Membership, Friday Flash, Book Fair, School Supply Fundraiser, Plant Sale and Retail Fundraising.  Events can be co-chaired and offer support from previous committee heads.  There are so many great ways to help out – from coordinating one of our family-fun events to smaller tasks that can be completed from home. Volunteering with the PTA is a fun way to give back to our school and to connect with other NSS parents.  If you have any questions, or would like to help out but aren’t sure where to start, please contact Kelly Foster (kellywfoster@hotmail.com) or Erin Lopez (erin.lpz@gmail.com). Thank you!
