SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
Another great week at NSS and we all enjoyed the transition from the hot days at the beginning of the week to more fall-like weather at the end. Students are doing a great job working in small groups K-5. We can’t believe it will be October when we return next week. Make sure to keep checking all the “Dates to Remember” for the many great activities coming up. Make sure you look for conference forms that were sent home today. This is a great opportunity to hear more about your child’s progress, so please complete and return the form to your child’s teacher by Monday, October 2nd.

PTA NEWS

A Big Thank You to…
All the volunteers who attended the Library Volunteer meeting, and those who signed up to volunteer but couldn’t attend. Looks like it’ll be another successful year for volunteers in the LLC with Mrs. Clark. If you are interested in volunteering in the LLC, please contact Gillian Sizer at gilliansizer@gmail.com.

NSS takes the PINK PLEDGE
On October 13th, NSS will have a DRESS IN PINK DAY to support Breast Care awareness month. Each student can donate $1 and faculty members can donate $5. If writing a check, please make it payable to the Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center. The money collected will be donated to the NPBC which helps to support local women who are currently being treated for breast cancer, mentally & physically regardless of their ability to pay.

Please send your donations in an envelope marked “PINK PLEDGE” to Eileen Dancho c/o Cormac Dancho, 4M.

We will pick one student from each class with the WACKIEST & TACKIEST pink outfit to take a picture with the NPBC pink car with eyelashes.

Together NSS can make a difference…. Let’s pink it up, North Stratfield!

Wednesday, October 4th is Walk to School Day!
Walk to School Day is a fun community activity to help promote active lifestyles, and encourage a healthy environment. If you live in a Walking District, same rules apply as always…stay to the side of the road with your children and remember the intersections are still going to be busy. If you live in a Bus District, there will be designated areas you can drive to so you can walk together as a group.
***This is NOT a mandatory event and buses run as normal***
*Lake Mohegan Parking lot at 8:20 a.m.
*Intersection of Bond Street and Stratfield Road at 8:30 a.m.
*Intersection of Stratfield Road and Wheeler Park Road at 8:30 a.m.
*Intersection of Davis and Lisbon at 8:30 a.m.

BE SAFE!  HAVE FUN!!

River Lab Study Trip Huge Success
The 4th Grade River-lab study trip was a huge success last week! The students participated in a hands-on demonstration of the water cycle and how it impacts the natural and developed land.  They observed the groundwater system and the importance of preserving nature to help avoid run-off that causes flooding.  The program would not be possible without our amazing volunteers, teaching the students environmental science on the trail.  It was a pleasure to work with each of you! We couldn’t have done this without Lee Siegel, Torey Strauser, Geovanna Alvarez, Maria Baptista, Ashley Moser, Stephanie Stellato, Rich Cassa, Kelly Takacs, and Hallie Levine.  Many Thanks! Andrea Ward and Roseann Stenson

Saugatuck Sweets in downtown Fairfield will be hosting a 3-day NSS “Fun-raising” event on October 13th, 14th & 15th from open to close each day. 20% of all proceeds will be donated to NSS!
