Notes from Mrs. Jackson
We are off to a great start for the 2017-2018 school year.  The children are doing well and adjusting to their school routines.  Our classroom teachers and specialists use a variety of assessments to inform classroom instruction (including STAR in reading and mathematics).  The beginning of the school year assessment window for students in K-5 is September 5-22 in classrooms and the computer lab.  Your children may have already begun taking an assessment in the classroom or the computer lab.  Your child’s classroom teacher will share assessment information with you during fall conferences.  We are looking forward to seeing many of you at next week’s Open House.  This is a great time to meet your child’s teacher and learn more about classroom routines and practices. Your children look forward to having you visit their classes.  Please remember this event is for adults only.
Thursday, September 14th    –  6:15-7:00 Grades K-2  –  Classroom Presentations
                7:00-7:15 Welcome Back – APR
                            7:05-7:15 Grade 5 – Parents visit all 3 classrooms
                            7:15-8:00 Grades 3-5   –  Classroom Presentations
We look forward to seeing you at Open House.  This is a great time to meet your child’s teacher, visit the classroom, and hear about the many exciting activities taking place in your child’s grade.  Doors open at 6:10 and classroom presentations begin promptly at 6:15 (grades K, 1, 2) and then again at 7:15 (grades 3, 4, 5).  Classroom presentations are approximately 30 minutes and you have some time to stop in and visit the specials classes – art, music, and physical education.  There is time set aside from 7:00-7:15 for you to visit with PTA representatives and Mrs. Jackson in the APR.  Parents of students in grade 5 are asked to go directly to the fifth grade wing starting at 7:05 to visit all 3 classrooms before reporting to your child’s homeroom at 7:15.  Please keep in mind this event is for adults only as there is no supervision in place for children.
A Big Thank You to…

Be a Sister To All Girl Scouts
Become a big or little Girl Scout sister! Once a month, your Girl Scout can send a craft or a note to their assigned little or big Girl Scout sister using backpack mail. It’s a great way for the older and younger girls to connect and support each other. Find out more at the Ice Cream Social, where your daughter can sign up and make her first craft, which will be sent next via backpack mail week. *If you can’t attend the ice cream social and still want to participate, please email me ASAP.
Thanks, Jennifer Calabrese, Girl Scout Liaison

Friday Flash Info
If you have a submission for the Friday Flash, send it to no later than 11:00 AM on Thursday.  Please include any attachments as well. When we have a short week, the Flash will go out on the last school day of that week. The deadline for submissions will then be 11:00 AM on the previous day. Also, when sending an email for the Flash, please include no extra formatting, i.e., bold, caps, shading, etc.  For any “community” or non-PTA flyers, please utilize the district’s new system – Peachjar. Peachjar is a website where you can find out about community events and post your own flyers for others to see.
