SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
It was great seeing so many parents at conference time. The children had a busy and reading focused week as they enjoyed visiting the PTA Book Fair. I am so proud that our students love books so much!

NSS Halloween Parade
The NSS Halloween Parade will be held on Tuesday, October 31 at 9:30am in the bus loop. Please read the attached flyer for important information about this special event.

NSS Veterans Day Assembly
This is a very special event at NSS.  If you are new to our school community – please make sure you read through all the information in the flyer attached to this week’s “Flash.”  If you have a veteran in your family – we would love to add him/her to our NSS Wall of Honor – so please make sure to get a picture ready to send in.  More information on this great event is included in the following attachments: Veteran’s Day Commemoration and Wall of Honor.

Volunteers Needed for Veterans Day Decorations
Our Veterans Day Assembly is right around the corner (on November 8th)  and we are looking for a few volunteers to help us put up pictures and decorate the entrance hallway on November 1st.  If you are interested and can lend a hand, please email Mrs. Furey at jfurey@fairfieldschools.org.

Literacy Objects
NSS is in need of small objects to help us reinforce many early literacy skills! We use these objects to teach rhyme, syllables, beginning/ending sounds etc. Please send in any small objects that might be helpful with this. Old happy meal toys or little trinkets that are no longer being played with work great. Please send in things that do not have to be returned. See attached picture for examples. Place them in a bag labeled Literacy Objects – Mrs. Stiber. If you come across more throughout the year they will always be welcomed! Thanks for your help in building up our collection!

PTA NEWS

A Big Thank You to…

Alex McHale & Dave Hunkins for putting on another fabulous NSS Halloween party!  We know it is a substantial undertaking and it was a huge hit!  Big thanks to Jeff Fink for providing his DJ services for the monster mash – the kids had a blast!  To all the volunteers, who are too numerous to name – all your work, from set-up, to volunteering at the party, and then the clean-up crew, you exemplify the best of our community and make us all so proud to be a part of NSS!

Thank you, Hallie Levine, Jodi Ortega, and our many volunteers who helped with another wonderful book fair. The kids enjoyed putting their wish lists together and picking out some new books and fun gifts. The teachers had a great time, too! We truly appreciate all of the time and effort that went into making this event a success.

Thanks to our fabulous Kindergarten Parents for providing some yummy treats for our Kindergarten Curriculum Coffee. What a sweet way to start the day!

NSS Fundraiser at Steffano’s
Steffano’s in Fairfield will be hosting an NSS “Fun-raising” event on Wednesday, November 8th from 11:00am – 10:00pm and is valid for eat-in or take-out. 15% of all proceeds will be donated to NSS! Just show the flyer to your server and enjoy a fun afternoon or evening out while supporting our school’s PTA!

SCOUTING NEWS

K-Cup Drive to Support Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital
“Care Cup” Drive- October 2nd – 31st : Care Cups (K-cups) are needed for distribution at the family lounge in Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. A Keurig machine is available to the families, but K-cups are not supplied by the hospital. In collaboration with Brady’s Smile, the second grade NSS Girl Scouts would like to supply K-cups for the month of November to the family lounge at the Children’s Hospital. A collection box will be outside the main office for donations. All flavors of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are welcome. Thank you for your support!

Friday Flash Info
If you have a submission for the Friday Flash, send it to info@nsspta.org no later than 11:00 AM on Thursday.  Please include any attachments as well. When we have a short week, the Flash will go out on the last school day of that week. The deadline for submissions will then be 11:00 AM on the previous day. Also, when sending an email for the Flash, please include no extra formatting, i.e., bold, caps, shading, etc.  For any “community” or non-PTA flyers, please utilize the district’s new system – Peachjar. Peachjar is a website where you can find out about community events and post your own flyers for others to see.
