SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
A busy and productive week at NSS!  The children enjoyed getting outside this week – many thanks for sending them in with appropriate outdoor gear.  Our second-grade teachers enjoyed spending time with parents at Thursday’s morning PTA meeting. We are looking forward to a special Jump Rope for Heart week at NSS!

HEALTH ALERT:
We have been asked to share with you that flu season this year is particularly dangerous, and we want to take every precaution to keep our staff and children safe.  The district posted a link to the Fairfield Health Department on the district Facebook page regarding flu shots that are still available.  Please help us at school by remembering to keep children home when they are not feeling well.  Hopefully, flu season will pass quickly and will be uneventful for our NSS community.

Art Project Materials Request
4th grade will be making cakes! To do so, we’ll first need a good amount of thin cardboard. Please save boxes at home and bring them to the Art room ASAP! Examples: cereal boxes, fruit bar boxes, Dunkin’ donut boxes, frozen waffle boxes- (basically anything that comes in a thin cardboard box! ) THANKS –Mrs. Mansi

NSS Drama Production Tickets Available!
Are you ready to be entertained? It is time for our 11th Annual NSS Drama Production. This year we will be putting on “Peter Pan and Captain Hook or How I Learned to Fly”. Come and support your friends at NSS and watch the show. We will have a show Friday 2/2 at 7:00pm and Saturday 2/3 at 1:00PM.

This year, we are doing the ticketing process differently and are using SignUp Genius.  If you want to secure your seats ahead of time (and we are filling up quickly), please follow this link to select your seats. You will find the instructions on how to choose your seats through that link.  You will need to scroll down to find available seats. On the SignUp Genius page, you will also find links for the map of the auditorium and Paypal for ease of payment. We will NOT be sending home tickets.  You need to print or bring a screenshot of your signup genius confirmation as that will be your ticket.  If you choose to do backpack mail for payment, please be sure to send the money in within 48 hours of ordering.

Thank you! Any questions, please email nssdramaprogram@gmail.com.

Board of Education Representative Update
Next week the Board of Education will be voting on the Superintendent’s proposed 2018-19 FPS Budget. There will be one more Budget Review meeting taking place on Tuesday, 1/23/18, 7:30PM at 501 Kings Highway. There will be an opportunity for public comment at that meeting. As parents, our attendance and participation can have a direct effect on the budget. I’ve included below a link to our currently proposed budget.

Superintendent’s Proposed Budget FPS 2018-2019

Staying involved in the process throughout the next four months before a final budget is passed will be critical for not only our North Stratfield community, but our school district as a whole. The decisions made at these upcoming meetings will impact both students and staff, and we want to make sure our voices are being heard as supporting competitive education spending in our community. I will continue to update here with meeting dates and chances for public comment.

Thank you, Katie Flynn, BOE Representative for NSS PTA

Thank You Fifth Grade Parents!
The Fifth Grade Committee would like to thank all the 5th-grade parents who volunteered their time, baked goods, and water to this fundraising event.  We really appreciate all of our 5th-grade parents’ help. It’s the only way we can make these fundraising events successful.  We also would like to thank the Pizza Bingo Committee for making it such a fun event for all the NSS families.

*The 5th-grade committees sign-ups will be sent out shortly via room parents. Please, make sure to sign up to chair a committee. We need as many volunteers as possible so we can make all the 5th-grade students’ events memorable.
