2018-19 Elementary 6-Day Rotation

Week: September 17, 2018

Monday-E, Tuesday-F, Wednesday-No School, Thursday-A, Friday-B

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
We had a great four day week and it was wonderful seeing so many parents at Open House Night.  I am very proud of all the great work students are doing in classrooms and especially pleased with the fine behavior we are noticing in the lunch room and during dismissal.  Students are especially kind to one another and I know our kindergarten students have benefited from the many helpers from upper grades that have assisted them on buses and in our hallways the first few weeks of school.
The Fairfield Public Schools has an exciting new curricular program for all students in grades 3-5 – S(cience)T(echnology)E(ngineering)A(rts)M(athematics) – STEAM.

Students will meet with their STEAM teacher once per six-day cycle to apply problem-solving and inquiry processes to address everyday situations.  We are very excited about this addition to our already rich elementary curricula.

There will be a STEAM information night for parents of students in grades 3, 4 and 5 on October 4, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the Fairfield Warde High School Auditorium. Come see what your children will be experiencing and try out some of our exciting materials. Please see the attached document to learn more.

And a big, big thanks to…
Maria Baptista and Jen Novia for a wonderful Ice Cream Social. A great time was had by all!

PTA Membership
Please join the NSS PTA and help us make NSS the best possible community for students, staff & families!  There is no commitment beyond joining – but there are many ways to get involved for those interested.  All families who join the PTA by October 1st receive a free paper directory!  Please click here to download a membership form.

4th Grade River Lab
4th Grade Parents – we need you for River Lab! Our 4th graders visit Mill River on October 1st – it’s right around the corner. We need trail guides and model leaders – not a “science person?” No worries! The folks at River Lab do an amazing job of prepping us for the field trip. There is one training and one trip – and we’re done for the year. Please email Kelly McWhinnie if you can help.  Remaining training dates are: 9/14, 9/22 or 9/27. All trainings are held from 9:30 – 11:00am.  (You only need to attend one.)

NSS Picture Day
Picture day will be on Tuesday, September 18.  Order forms already went home or you can order online. If you order online, please print your order form and have your child bring it in for picture day. Any questions, please contact Sue Fekete.

Halloween Party Committee Looking for Volunteers
The Halloween Committee will be gathering for a planning meeting Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00pm at Panera Bread on Black Rock Turnpike. We would love any ideas, input and help we can get! Please email Katie Flynn if you can attend or have any questions.

NSS Hoe Down

Attention NSS Community Business Owners
In an effort to support businesses owned by those in the NSS Community we will now be allowing promotional posts to our NSS PTA Facebook page. Posting will be on the first Wednesday of each month only beginning Wednesday, October 3rd.  If you would like to participate, please take a moment to review the below guidelines before posting.  Any questions, email Kelly Imschweiler.

1. Self Promotion: Posts may be done on the first Wednesday of every month only by anyone in the NSS Community who owns a business.  In order to manage the traffic on the page and ensure pertinent school information isn’t getting lost, please limit your posts to only 1 post for the day.

2. No Negative Business Posts: If someone asks for a recommendation and you have a negative experience to share, please send them a private message or contact them through an alternative method.

3. Content: All posts must be professional in nature and may not include graphics that include any NSS children.  Any posts that are deemed offensive or derogatory will be taken down.  If you are unsure if your post is appropriate please first email it to NSS PTA President, Kelly Imschweiler.

Change of Plan Pads
If a change of plan pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTA. Please indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad. Thank you!

The School with the best average time (top three runners) in the 1-Mile Run takes home the Mile Challenge Trophy for the year. Go to this link to learn more and to register.
