SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
It was a beautiful five day week here at NSS even though the rains came and came on Tuesday.  Students are working hard in all areas.  I was especially impressed during my kindergarten visits with the fine transition our youngest learners have made to our school.  They are all learning our kindergarten routines and are very involved in hands-on math activities as they learn their shapes and expand counting.  We can’t believe it will be October next week and look forward to getting ready for our Halloween Parade.  For those families new to NSS – mark the morning of October 31st on your calendars to visit and watch our students and staff in a 9:30am morning costume parade.  More information on this to follow shortly.  Please also look at the attachment we were asked to send regarding an upcoming event by the Fairfield Foundation for Education.  Our teachers have received past grants that have included the purchase of sensory-motor boxes and alternative seating arrangements for our NSS students.

PTA NEWS

And a big, big thanks to…
Dipti Haria, Hannah Choi, Maggie Joyce and Jennifer Calabrese for designing and sewing 9 new classroom banners and updating 4 existing ones!

PTA Membership – Last Chance for Free Directory!
Join the PTA!  While we will be taking memberships all year, Monday, October 1st, is the deadline to join to receive a free paper directory.  Joining the PTA does not require any further commitments, and we always welcome new faces and fresh ideas & we’re very proud of the ways we’ve been able to enrich the NSS community!  Click here to download a membership form.

NSS Hoe Down
Thanks to y’all who already pre-purchased your tickets for Friday’s Hoe Down!  If you’d still like to join us for a fun night of square dancing, tickets are available at the door, too!  Hope to see y’all there…NSS APR, Friday 9/28, 6:30-8pm!  Be there & be square…dancing, that is! This event is open to all NSS students and their grown-up partners, sorry no non-NSS siblings, please.

Halloween Party Planning
The next planning meeting for the Halloween Party Committee will be Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 pm in the APR. Please come out if you are available!

The Halloween Party Committee is looking for volunteers for this year’s party. We need a variety of adult volunteers to make the party a success. We are looking for volunteers to help oversee a few stations, set up for the Haunted House (great volunteer opportunity for the whole family!) and APR, as well as volunteers for during the event and clean up.

Please follow this link to sign up to volunteer. We want to make it a great event for our kids and need as much help as we can!

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Katie Flynn or Ed Lee.

Book Fair is Coming!
It is finally almost here! The NSS Book Fair will be held from Tuesday, October 9th to Thursday, October 11th. All students will visit the Book Fair during school on Tuesday 10/09. They can either purchase books with money brought from home or complete a wish list to share with parents. Parents may also visit the Book Fair with their children during conferences. You can also purchase your teacher a Book Fair gift certificate. Simply complete this attached form and return it to school by Monday, October 8th. You can also pre-order the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Double Down, with this attached form.

Please Sign Up for NSS Book Fair 2018! Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers to help staff our annual book fair, which runs this year from October 9th to October 11th during the school day and conference hours. We also need a few volunteers on the morning of Friday, October 12th, to help with taking everything down. You can sign up here. Any questions reach out to Hallie Levine.

Change of Plan Pads
If a change of plan pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTA. Please indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad. Thank you!
