NSS Summer Readers!
NSS did a wonderful job participating in the summer reading program with Fairfield Public Library. We logged a total of 65,832 minutes as a school! To celebrate this accomplishment, each grade level will receive one extra 10 minute period of recess! Great job readers!

Volunteers Needed for Veterans Day Ceremony Preparation
The Veteran’s Day Assembly committee is looking for a few good people! There are many ways to help prior to our assembly on November 9th. We are looking for ONE volunteer to type up the names of veterans for our WALL OF HONOR.  This can be done at home or at school.  We are also looking for a team of volunteers to help put up pictures and decorate the hallway on November 1st or 2nd.  If you are interested and can lend a hand, please email Mrs. Furey.

And a big, big thanks to…

Amy Boland, Hannah Choi, Michelle Hennessey, Gail Lacugna, Ed Lee, Kelly McWhinnie, Nick Novia, Torey Strauser and Aimee White-Charles for volunteering as trail guides for the 4th Grade River Lab trip.  And an even bigger thanks to Terri Pisseri and Jen Whelpley, for serving as both model leaders and trail guides!

Bonnie Liang, Annalisa Panagiotakis, and Girl Scout Troop 33261 for putting on a fun Hoe Down for our school! It was great to see so many families learning some new dances and enjoying each other’s company.

Book Fair is Coming!
It is finally almost here! The NSS Book Fair will be held next week from Tuesday, October 9th to Thursday, October 11th. All students will visit the Book Fair during school on Tuesday 10/09. They can either purchase books with money brought from home or complete a wish list to share with parents. Parents may also visit the Book Fair with their children during conferences. You can also purchase your teacher a Book Fair gift certificate. Simply complete this attached form and return it to school by Monday, October 8th. You can also pre-order the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Double Down, with this attached form.

Please Sign Up for NSS Book Fair 2018! Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers to help staff our annual book fair, which runs this year from October 9th to October 11th during the school day and conference hours. We also need a few volunteers on the morning of Friday, October 12th, to help with taking everything down. You can sign up here. Any questions reach out to Hallie Levine.

Attention 5th Grade parents!
We’re looking for volunteers to help with the fun activities that we have planned for our graduating class. We’ll be meeting on Wednesday, October 10th in the NSS Library at 8:00pm. Please join us! If you’re not able to make the meeting but you would still like to participate, please reach out to Nicole Farrell or Torey Strauser to let us know where you’d like to volunteer your time – there are many opportunities! We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

I scream! You scream! We all scream for Ice Cream and Sweet Treats!
Please visit Saugatuck Sweets – 8 Reef Road in Fairfield, on October 12th, 13th and 14th.  Mention the NSS fundraiser and our school will receive 20% of the proceeds from those days! Please bring the flyer that was sent home or show a picture on your phone!

Internet Safety Presentation with Fairfield Officer Mike Guilfoyle – October 25th, 7:30 in the APR
Back by popular demand, we will be having Officer Mike Guilfoyle of the Fairfield Police Department at our PTA meeting to talk with us about internet safety.  This parent only presentation will focus on how to keep our kids, at any age, safe as they navigate the tech world.  Tips and tools will be shared for the use of all things electronic – phone, tablets, internet and the never-ending string of apps.  Please book your sitters now and be sure to join us for this very informative session.

Halloween Party Volunteers Needed
The Halloween Party Committee is still looking for volunteers for this year’s party. We need a variety of adult volunteers to make the party a success. We are looking for volunteers to help oversee a few stations, set up for the Haunted House (great volunteer opportunity for the whole family!) and APR, as well as volunteers for during the event and clean up.

Please follow this link to sign up to volunteer. We want to make it a great event for our kids and need as much help as we can!

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Katie Flynn or Ed Lee.

Change of Plan Pads
If a change of plan pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTA. Please indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad. Thank you!

NSS Flash Info
If you have a submission for the NSS Friday Flash, send it to no later than 1:00pm on Wednesdays. Please include the text of your blurb (plain text, no special formatting) and any attachments in PDF format. When we have a short week, the Flash will go out on the last school day of that week. The deadline for submissions will then be 1:00pm on the previous day. For any “community” or non-PTA flyers, please utilize the district’s new system – Peachjar. Peachjar is a website where you can find out about community events and post your own flyers for others to see.
