SCHOOL NEWS

Notes from Mrs. Jackson
Another fine week at NSS!  I spent time in kindergarten this week and really enjoyed seeing the fine work students are doing with shapes in math.  Now that the cold weather has arrived – just another reminder to make sure your children wear warm coats, gloves, and hats to school.  We held a very successful fire drill this week (students had their coats) and were happy to get this in before it snows.  We are looking forward to next week’s Winter Concert!

5th Grade Strings Notice!
5th Grade Strings Dress rehearsal:  Thursday, December 13 @ 7:50 AM sharp.
Please make sure your child has their instrument and music folder for our final run-through with our accompanist.

PTA NEWS

Strategic Planning Committee – Feedback Requested
The Board of Selectman has established a new Strategic Plan Committee (SPC) to develop a Plan for the town with a time horizon of 5-10+ years. The potential issues ‘the Plan’ will address are things like: Taxes, Spending, Education, Economic Development, Infrastructure, etc.  The SPC is looking to obtain input from as many town residents as possible.  If you did not have the chance to participate in our workshop you may still contribute feedback via the online questionnaire and other tools on the project website (see links below).  The workshop and questionnaire and other feedback will be leveraged with the information gathered during the project interviews and other analysis.

1) On the project site, you can go online at www.hlplanning.com/portals/fairfield to fill in a questionnaire (There are questionnaires for adults and youth) or complete the Map.social tool.

2) On or SPC page of the Town Website at https://www.fairfieldct.org/content/10736/12858/52569/59680.aspx we allow residents to provide other general input, or obtain other background information about the Strategic Planning initiative.

Safety Initiative for Our Walking Community
There has been a growing concern for the safety of our student walking community here at North Stratfield due to traffic concerns and unsafe driving on the surrounding roads. After discussions at the strategic planning meeting last night we want to give our walking families an opportunity to put together a collective voice to speak with our town officials and police department to come up with reasonable solutions to this problem. If you are a walking family and interested in being part of this conversation please email Katie Flynn.

NSS Fundraiser at The Mason Jar
Please see the attached flyer for more information about the fundraiser which runs from December 9 – 16.

Pizza Bingo Prize Donation Request
Pizza Bingo is coming up and will be held the nights of February 20 – 22! We are looking for any NSS families who would like to donate to our Pizza Bingo prize table and raffle. We would be very grateful for donations of brand new toys or small gift certificates to local shops or restaurants. For families who own or work for local businesses and would like to donate, donations can be written off as a tax deduction. We are a 501(c)(3) and can provide the proper forms for this. Please email the Pizza Bingo Co-Chairs Brian Carroll and Hannah Choi at nsspizzabingo@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to donate. Thank you very much!

Change of Plan Pads
If a change of plan pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTA. Please indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad. Thank you!
