SCHOOL NEWS

A Note from Mrs. Jackson
A great full week at NSS!  Our students are back in the swing of school and working hard in all areas.  We are looking forward to having an early dismissal next Friday devoted to staff development.  Our teachers are working closely together to analyze student work as it informs their instruction.  Stay warm this weekend.

Jump Rope For Heart
Hello Families! Our school is proud to partner with the American Heart Association with the Kids Heart Challenge. Over the next few weeks, our students will be having fun learning about their heart & practicing their jump rope skills with the Heart Heroes while raising money to help fund lifesaving research. Students can earn their own Heart Hero Characters this year by using the new mobile app (download the Kids Heart Challenge app) or by visiting http://american.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge/ to sign up and raise money online! Just for signing up to save lives, your students will earn a glow in the dark wristband! PLUS this year, the mobile app unlocks even more fun. The Heart Heroes and wristband come to life! All donations are due on February 8th and our event day(s) are January 28th – February 1st. Thank you for helping a great cause!
Attached is the class schedule for the JRFH event. You will find the date and time that your child/children will be participating in their Jump Rope for Heart event.
Thank you for all your support! – Kim Rasmussen (NSS Physical Education Teacher)

Call for Volunteers
The PTA is seeking a few folks to help organize and run the concession stand for the 1:00 p.m. Drama Performance on Saturday February 2nd.  Duties will include shopping for snacks (pretzels, chips, fruit snacks, ring pops, water, etc), setting up the table before the show for performers to purchase and selling during intermission. The cost of items purchased will be reimbursed by the PTA with ALL profits going back to the PTA. If you are able to assist please email Kelly Imschweiler at kimschweiler@optonline.net.  Thank you in advance for your support of the NSS Community!

Box Tops for Education
Looking for a way to help increase funding for PTA-sponsored programs and equipment without spending extra? Enroll in programs that enable NSS to earn dividends on the money you already spend! Check out our page which includes information on how to earn free money for NSS as well as a brief video on Box Tops for Education.

Walk-a-Thon Co-Chair & Committee Members Needed
The WAT Committee is looking to expand!  We are seeking a new co-chair as well as volunteers to be part of the committee.
The WAT occurs in May and is one of the largest fundraisers for NSS and such a wonderful experience to be part of. It’s an opportunity to to get involved with other NSS families and most importantly have fun! Do you like to plan? Do you like to work with local businesses? Or would you rather work behind the scenes? There is something for everyone and level of time commitment – all helping hands are welcome.
If you are interested in joining us please reach out to Kelly Takacs and Gillian Mongirdas at northstratfieldwalkathon@gmail.com. Thank you!

Change of Plan Pads
If a change of plan pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTA. Please indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad. Thank you!
