A Note from Mrs. Jackson
A busy week at NSS filled with many learning activities. We have been working in grade level teams reviewing student writing work and it is great to see our students expressing their “voices” in print. There are many exciting events coming up in the next few months so be sure and read through the Flash closely in order to participate and remain informed. We are all looking forward to next week’s Drama Production and I hope to see many of you there.

Jump Rope For Heart
Hello Families! Our school is proud to partner with the American Heart Association with the Kids Heart Challenge. Over the next few weeks, our students will be having fun learning about their heart & practicing their jump rope skills with the Heart Heroes while raising money to help fund lifesaving research. Students can earn their own Heart Hero Characters this year by using the new mobile app (download the Kids Heart Challenge app) or by visiting to sign up and raise money online! Just for signing up to save lives, your students will earn a glow in the dark wristband! PLUS this year, the mobile app unlocks even more fun. The Heart Heroes and wristband come to life! All donations are due on February 8th and our event day(s) are January 28th – February 1st. Thank you for helping a great cause!
Attached is the class schedule for the JRFH event. You will find the date and time that your child/children will be participating in their Jump Rope for Heart event.
Thank you for all your support! – Kim Rasmussen (NSS Physical Education Teacher)

On Thursday January 31st NAEP will be administered to fourth grade students. North Stratfield School was selected to participate in this assessment. Fifty randomly selected 4th grade students were selected to participate. Letters went home to those families the second week of January. NAEP is given to a representative sample of students across the country. Results are reported for groups of students with similar characteristics (e.g., gender, race and ethnicity, school location), nor for individual students. National results are available for all subjects assessed by NAEP. NAEP is known as the Nation’s Report Card, it has provided important information about how students are performing academically across the nation since 1969.

Warde eSports Team and Club Fundraiser
Warde eSports fundraiser is taking place on Sunday, January 27. The team is trying to raise the money needed to pay for competition league fees. Many of the players can’t afford the fees. STEM in general and eSports in particular is not generally a coordinated social thing like soccer or basketball — so the kids who enjoy it most don’t have ready opportunities to share their enthusiasm with others. The Warde team, many of whom are off to great engineering schools in the Fall, want to show that STEM and eSports can be social too.  It’s more fun to do in a group.  That’s why they decided to do a play based event fundraiser focused on Minecraft and Legos. Please see the attached flyer for more information. This might be a great opportunity for your son or daughter to connect with some super nice older kids who share a common interest.
