A great week at NSS – we can’t believe March is passing so quickly.  It was great seeing so many parents during conferences and I know you heard great things about your children and their learning.  I spent time in kindergarten and fifth grade this week and was amazed by the deep thinking as students engaged in partner work together during reading.

Several parents have brought to our attention safety concerns during afternoon dismissal in the car loop.  We know it is a busy time and many folks are in a rush to get to afternoon activities, however, I ask that you prioritize safety at all times by following our guidelines.  Please do NOT double park – leave cars on and unattended – pass one another – and stop to remember little ones are always watching as adults interact with one another. It is best to park on the street before the lot if you are going to the door to pick up your child. Unfortunately, the parking lot area is not designed for the number of cars that appear to be currently trying to park and pick up from that location all at the same time. Following our guidelines and additional adults directing the traffic should help us all maintain safety first during this important afternoon time. We thank you on behalf of all of our families!

Parking/Traffic Information/Traffic Circle reminders:
– The Circle is One Way. Please stay to the right as you enter and leave.
– The area of the circle near the front door entrance to the school is a Drop-off/Pick-up Zone only.  You may stop and wait for a student in that area, but you may not leave your car.  If you need to pick up your child at the door, you will need to park in a designated parking space.
PLEASE don’t leave your car with the motor running and unattended.
– PM Dismissal can be very busy with many cars and many children walking/running in the parking lot. PLEASE do NOT pass one another unless an adult is outside directing the traffic. PLEASE do NOT double park or try to pass a car in line.

PLEASE make sure to keep watch on little ones who may be behind your car as you back out.  PLEASE try to slow down as you drive through the entire parking lot area and/or loop.

I’m offering an Extra after school Art class for the early Spring called “Creative Minds”! The class will be held on Thursdays after school from 3:30-4:30pm. Calling all 5th grade parents! We’re looking for 8-10 parent volunteers to help with Diversity Day on Friday, April 5th from 9-11am. The goal of Diversity Day is to promote empathy and acceptance of the differences that individuals with disabilities encounter every day as well as teach us about diversity within ourselves and our society. The program is held in the gym where each of the 5th grade classes will rotate through five hands-on learning stations: Motor Skills/Speech and Language, Food Allergies, Learning Differences, Visual Impairment and a Multi-Cultural station exploring our own diversity.
Please email Carolyn Wasserlauf at if you are able to help out on this fun and educational day! Thank you!
