We all ended the month of March on a positive note. It was great visiting with our special author, Elise Broach, and we were very proud of our students as they engaged in activities with her on Wednesday. A special thank you again to our PTA for providing this experience for us and for providing staff with a delicious lunch on that day. It was also great seeing so many parents here as we concluded conferences. We are looking forward to spring weather now and hope April brings warmth and sunshine – no showers.
Many thanks for helping us focus on a safe dismissal each day within our car loop and parking lot area.

Our Kindergarten Orientation/Visitation Day is only a month away and invitations will be going out next week. If your child will be entering Kindergarten in the 2019/20 school year, please be sure to pre-register on line and schedule an appointment with our registrar’s office prior to our orientation/visitation day scheduled on May 1, 2019.We have added the links below to guide you through our registration process. Once you have pre-registered on line, you will need to make an appointment to confirm the registration at Central Office. To make an appointment, please call 203-255-8398. Thank you.

The Board of Education’s budget was voted on by the Board of Selectmen (BOS), who unanimously approved to cut the budget by $700,000 due to the uncertainty of state-level pension funding requirements. The BOE budget is now before the town’s Board of Finance (BOF) and then to the RTM to be further voted on and adopted. The RTM can recommend further cuts but can not reinstate funds. Voting dates are listed below.
The Board of Finance will hold their annual public budget forum on Saturday March 30 at 9:30 a.m. at Fairfield Ludlow High School Auditorium. All Fairfield residents are invited to attend and public comment is welcome. This is a great opportunity to voice your support for education funding in Fairfield.
If you support the BOE budget, you can also email the BOF and RTM voicing your support for the proposed budget and ask for no further cuts. Emails are counted and make a big difference! Your email can be simple, stating who you are and that you want to see the BOE proposed budget passed or not. All members can be reached at the addresses below. – vote will be on April 3rd – vote will be on May 6th

Jen Giudice for all her hard work on organizing One School One Book and the wonderful visit with Elise Broach author of Masterpiece.

Join us!  Next year’s slate is shaping up wonderfully with old and new faces – it’s going to be an exciting year!  However, we’re still looking to fill several key positions.

  • The Treasurer-Elect works with the Treasure, assisting and training for the following year.
  • Yearbook Chairs coordinate yearbook photographers and organize the yearbook layouts using templates from our vendor.
  • The PTA-C Rep attends meetings and networks with the other Fairfield school reps to share ideas and collaboration opportunities.

If you are interested in any of the above positions, or want to hear more about other ways to get involved, please contact Kelly ( or Torey (  We look forward to working with you!

The April 3 deadline is coming up! Support NSS today by ordering your child’s art as useful and fun keepsakes like magnets, mugs and pot holders. It’s not too early to think about Mother’s/Father’s Day! You can order online or through the paper form. Please email Christine Kelly,, with any questions.

Running the kids around & no time to cook? Stop in for easy & delicious take out. Come help support the 5th grade class on Thursday, April 4th 2PM – Close. A percentage of the sales will go towards the costs for their end of year activities & graduation. Be on the look out for the flyer to bring with you or  just mention that you’re supporting the NSS 5th grade class.

Calling all 5th grade parents! We’re looking for 8-10 parent volunteers to help with Diversity Day on Friday, April 5th from 9-11am. The goal of Diversity Day is to promote empathy and acceptance of the differences that individuals with disabilities encounter every day as well as teach us about diversity within ourselves and our society. The program is held in the gym where each of the 5th grade classes will rotate through five hands-on learning stations: Motor Skills/Speech and Language, Food Allergies, Learning Differences, Visual Impairment and a Multi-Cultural station exploring our own diversity.
Please email Carolyn Wasserlauf at if you are able to help out on this fun and educational day! Thank you!
