SCHOOL NEWS

A NOTE FROM MRS. JACKSON
Another great week at NSS.  We are very excited that our Gaga Pit is in the process of being constructed – more news to follow once it is in on our intermediate playground.  I spent time in a kindergarten STEAM class and it was great to see our youngest students thinking out of the box as they created blueprints together.  If your child/children ride the bus to and from school – please remind him/her to stay seated and follow the directions of the bus driver.  This can be a difficult time for our students as many are not used to sitting on a bus for a period of time.  We are looking forward to the many upcoming events in October – so please make sure to keep the FLASH handy to not miss anything.

SAVE THE DATE!
This year’s Veteran’s Day Assembly will take place Wednesday, November 6th at 10:00 am. Flyers will be sent home in two weeks with information on the ceremony. Please keep in mind, due to limited space, this is typically an event attended by students, staff, veterans, town dignitaries, and parents who have Veterans being honored.

 PTA NEWS

The PTA would like to say a BIG thank you to…
Heidi Etre and Lekha Joshi for their hard work
on the After School Enrichment program for this Fall.
The classes look amazing and the kids are very excited to get started!  Thank you guys for all of your efforts on this. This program is such a valuable resource for the NSS community.

*** Last Call for Paper Directories! ***
Attention NSS Families!  October 1st is the deadline to join the NSS PTA and receive a free paper directory.  We are always thrilled to have parents join the PTA and support our mission to positively affect the NSS community, but if you want a free paper directory, you must join by October 1st.  We will not be ordering extra directories.  Click here for our membership form.

 DIRECTORY DETAILS NEEDED

Parents, please login to Membership Toolkit, https://nsspta.membershiptoolkit.com, and assign your child to their homeroom teacher. It only takes a minute and helps us complete our class lists. Thank you for your help!

NSS KINDNESS COMMITTEE

The first two events for the NSS Kindness Committee have been a huge success! Our first lemonade stand for Alex’s Lemonade Stand raised $625 for childhood cancer research. These funds will be used to advance childhood cancer research and we could not be more proud to add NSS to the list of supporters of this worthy cause.
This week we will also be wrapping up our First Annual Tiger Toy Drive. Please make sure to send any toys you have to donate by THIS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH, collection boxes are located in the main lobby.
To celebrate all your hard work and generosity we are setting up a card making session next Thursday October 3rd in the APR from 6-7 pm. The cards will be delivered with our collected Toys to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Please RSVP at the link below if you are able to attend. This is not a drop off event, parent must stay with their children. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4dabaf2eaafc1-toydrive

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
Hey NSS, participate in Walk to School Day on October 2nd.  Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.  Please join us in this fun event! We will have the Fairfield Police Department helping to keep everyone safe.

There will be two starting spots if you opt to walk as a group (you can walk to school separately from anywhere):
1) At the Lake Mohegan Parking Lot
2) At the intersection of Bond and Stratfield
We will gather at 8:15 a.m., start walking by 8:30 a.m. and plan to arrive at NSS by 8:45 a.m. Families are expected to walk with their children. Students are welcome to wear their NSS gear to show their school spirit!  See you on October 2nd!  If you have any questions please contact Jose Oromi hr1jeo@hotmail.com.
