A MESSAGE FROM MRS. JACKSON
A short but busy and productive week at NSS. I spent time in third grade this week and was very impressed with our students in terms of their problem solving skills in mathematics. As we close the short month of February – please make sure to check all the exciting activities coming up in March, especially in the area of literacy.


ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK
Literacy Month is coming up! Please see the attached PDF for important information about our One School, One Book program that will take place in March. Also, students and staff are encouraged to dress up as their favorites book character on March 2

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Attached please find the information on the Safety Town 2020 program for students entering kindergarten and Summer Adventures 2020 booklet for students Pre-K through 2nd grade. 

PTA NEWS

 

On Tuesday, February 18th, the NSS PTA sponsored a complete dinner for Operation Hope, Fairfield community kitchen. The meal was prepared by our local school partner, Ole Dog Tavern located on Black Rock Turnpike. Thanks to our amazing NSS community and your generous donations towards Operation Hope dinner! Your “Class Funds” were able to provide dinner for 50 people at Operation Hope of Fairfield.
The PTA would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Stephanie Landau and Kelly Lovegrove for arranging our annual “Operation Hope” dinner.
NSS is proud to be a part of this worthwhile cause to help out members of our community. Thank you!


PTA Nominating for 2020-21
The PTA has already started planning for the amazing things to come next year! We are working on our slate of leaders to help coordinate the diverse educational and social programming we provide to our community, and have put together a list of open positions. With a range of needs and time commitments, there is something for everyone who wants to get more involved! FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Come and join us at The Stress Factory on Sunday, March 29th, 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. 
for an evening filled of comedy, dinner and a professional magic show the entire family will enjoy! We will kick off the evening with some of our very own NSS students and families taking the stage to tell their funniest jokes. Awards will be given to the top comedians! A buffet style dinner will be served, followed by a professional magician that is sure to wow and amaze! The entire family (don’t forget those older siblings) is welcome to attend an evening filled of laughter, food and wonder! Click here to Sign-up!

PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Calling all #TigerMoms and #TigerDads! Get ready for a parents night out at Fairfield Social on Friday, February 28th! See attached flyer for details.


NSS VARIETY SHOW
Calling all singers, dancers, comedians, puppeteers, instrumentalists, magicians, and all performers! Dust off your dancin’ shoes, clear your voice, practice your instruments, and get your groove on! This years’ NSS Variety Show will be held Saturday, April 25
th at Tomlinson Middle School Auditorium 7-9 p.m. Here is a link to the NSS Variety Show application that includes all the information about the most exciting event of the year.
Complete the form and send it in either by email or backpack mail – details are included in the registration form.  
Registration is due in MARCH 2nd.

DR. SEUSS DAY

Dr. Seuss Day / Read Across America Day is right around the corner – March 2nd!  Get your costumes ready, students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favorite Seuss character or other literary character! Volunteers needed to help decorate the APR in the morning and clean up in the afternoon.

BOOK SWAP

Start saving books your kids are done reading!  The NSS PTA will be hosting our 5th annual Book Swap on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the APR. Books will be collected on Monday 3/2, Tuesday 3/3 and Wednesday 3/4 in the classrooms.  Please send books in a bag labeled with your child’s name and the number of books.  One book donated earns a “new” book at the Book Swap. See the attached flyer for further details!

AR WORKSHOP FUNDRAISER
All are welcome! 
Come out for a night of crafting and fun to support the fifth grade! Join us at AR Workshop on Friday, March 6 at 6:30 pm. BYOB and snacks and let’s create together! Click here to sign up and choose a project. Friends are welcome! A portion of the proceeds will support the fifth grade committee activities.

3rd ANNUAL MOTHER & SON BOWLING NIGHT 
Saturday, March 7th,
 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Nutmeg Lanes, Fairfield
It’s time to break out your bowling shoes! Mother & Son Bowling Night is back for Round Three! Show off your skills and play with (or against) each other! Flyers will be coming home soon in backpack mail, or you can print the attached. This event sells out quickly as Nutmeg Bowl only allows 6 bowlers per lane. A week before the event, we’ll send out a link to everyone who’s registered and paid so they can pick those lucky lanes!  And of course, if Mom can’t make it, bring an aunt, grandma, or another special bowler!  It’s going to be a blast! Questions: email Jen Nori or Alexandra McHale.



SWEETHEART DANCE 
Girl Scout Troop 33261 is proud to host the Annual NSS Sweetheart Dance this year on Friday, March 13th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the NSS APR.  All NSS Girls are invited to attend with their influential adult guest for an evening of fun and dancing as we celebrate “Springtime in Paris”…ooh la la!  Flyer will be coming home soon via backpack mail or print the attached

NSS WALK-A-THON       
The NSS PTA is looking for sponsors for our walk-a-thon in May! If you own a business, or know someone who does, please consider reaching out to support our biggest fundraiser of the year! There are changes this year, which gives our sponsors more of a chance to advertise!  Sponsor forms went home in back pack mail. You can also find the Sponsor letter and form here.

2020 NEW YORK YANKEES – FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY
Attention all New York Yankee Fans! The PTA is working on “NSS Yankee Game Day” as a fundraiser for next year, 2020-21! Details are still forming so stay tuned for more information come Fall. In the mean time, if there are any fans that would like to gather a group of 10 or more for a discount this year, please reach out directly to Joe Salituro of the New York Yankees (email: jsalituro@yankees.com or phone: 646-977-8021) and he will assist with coordinating. Let’s play ball!

Arrow of Light Scouts from Pack 95 Need Your Help!!! 
Your Cub Scout friends in 5th Grade have a service project to complete for their Arrow of Light Award. They are collecting donations for Fairfield Animal Shelter. Please help our furry friends by donating the following:

CHANGE IN PLANS PADS: If a ‘change of plans’ pad is needed, please send in $3 cash or check payable to NSS PTAPlease indicate your child’s name and class so we know who to deliver it to. Please allow up to a week to receive a new pad.
NSS FRIDAY FLASH INFO: If you have a submission for the NSS Friday Flash, send it to info@nsspta.org no later than 1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Please include the text of your blurb (plain text, no special formatting) and any attachments in PDF format. When we have a short week, the Flash will go out on the last school day of that week. The deadline for submissions will then be 1:00 p.m. on the previous day.
Peachjar: For any “community” or non-PTA flyers, please utilize the district’s new system – Peachjar. Peachjar is a website where you can find out about community events and post your own flyers for others to see.
