  • NO SCHOOL – Friday March, 27th, Professional Day
  • DEADLINE TO ORDER YEARBOOK – Tuesday, March 31st. (see details below)

I hope you are all doing well in our second week of this new way of living and experiencing schooling.  Our teachers have been hard at work learning and leading distance learning which was never something we ever dreamed of let alone thought of implementing.  Many thanks to each and every one of you for working to take care of your children while supporting the learning curve of our teachers.  We will continue to do all that we can to help you and your children during this time.  It won’t however be a smooth and perfect situation and I know you are understanding of that. Friday will be a day teachers learn more of the technology so we hope to implement some new ways to engage your children and keep them connected to teachers and each other.

Here are a few highlights from much of the literature I have already read and my own thoughts on how to help parents and families during this unprecedented time.  I hope they will give you some comfort in the weeks ahead.

“No matter how many school plans you do or don’t get to in the coming weeks, I’ll bet you love your kids more than any other human walking the face of the earth has ever loved them,” says Sarah Mackenzie, founder of Read-Aloud Revival. “I bet your child will go to bed at night knowing they are wildly loved by you. That’s the most important thing.”

Find the positives in our current times – this is a great time to reconnect as a family and do things you haven’t had time to do before due to our hectic schedules – play board games – watch a special show or documentary together – start a chapter book that you all read and listen to each evening.

Your number one priority should be to find a way to make your home environment one where learning can happen peacefully.  Surround your family with good music and beautiful things.  Take time to watch the clouds and create a reason to have a party (my grandson had a birthday party for his favorite stuffed animal last Friday and we even found a way to include many of “Ducky’s” friends.

Don’t take on too much in any given day.  Please know that our teachers are doing their best to provide plenty of rich home friendly activities.  Don’t feel pressured to get every single thing done every single day.  Build in plenty of breaks for all of you and keep a watchful eye on how much screen time is being used as it can be very overwhelming to our senses.

I promise you – your children are resilient and their learning will not stop during this time.  Years from now they will benefit from the way you all interacted with them at home during this time – so don’t add to the stress of this world-wide situation.  Enjoy the calm that comes from being together with your precious children.  They grow up way too fast.

Stay well!
