SCHOOL NEWS
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. JACKSON
It has been a great first week back since vacation. Our students are working hard on their Google Classroom accounts and we hope they enjoyed our fun staff video as well. We are starting our Mindful Fridays tomorrow where teachers provide students with opportunities to engage in activities that will be good for their bodies and minds. They are different from the typical academic work posted Mondays through Thursdays. We also hope this day will be used to provide students and parents with time to catch up on anything they may have missed during the week. Have a wonderful weekend and stay well!

BOE UPDATES
Board of Education Meeting (Tuesday April 22nd) highlights:

  • Last Day of School June 17th
  • Graduation Date June 17th (TBD)
  • No School : May 1st, 11th, 15th, 29th
  • Yes School : April 28th & May 26th

All calendar changes were voted on and approved.

  • PPT’s will start to begin again on May 1st with additional state guidance. Priority will be given to lapsed PPTs, transitions and Birth to three.
  • The distract is continuing to focus on helping students access distance learning and being proactive in providing school support to students in need.
  • Friday PD Days : Teachers are continuing to use this time to make curriculum adjustments, further lesson planning and assessment development.
  • Seniors : The district and the state has put a high priority on making sure our Seniors can have positive experiences through this ordeal. The Board offered any help in making sure that is accomplished. More to come.
  • Budget : Overview of staffing impact and CARES act. All FPS employees are still retained and negotiations are ongoing with our Transportation providers. Mr. Cummings outlined where we could see cuts if further reductions are made to the budget. Instructional supplies, staffing reductions and maintenance projects were all mentioned. He was also mentioned making small cuts across the district rather than large gaps in certain areas.

The Board voted to approve the authorization for the superintendent/chair to establish a non lapsing account in collaboration with the Board of Finance. It was approved unanimously.

FRIDAY FLASH EDITOR NEEDED
Our beloved Friday Flash needs an editor for next year! This very important role can be done from home and takes less than a few hours a week. Detailed training will be provided. The Friday Flash helps us all stay connected with our community, and volunteering to help make it happen each week is an amazing way to help NSS. Without an editor for 2020-21, the Flash is in danger of not running. For more information, please contact Dipti Haria, current Flash editor or Tracy Palmer, President-Elect. Thank you!
