Communication, Fun and Fundraising

 Book Fair

We hold a book fair once a year, usually in the fall. Children come with their class and make a wish list of the books they would like and the list is sent home to their parents. Parents can then send into school with their child, the money to purchase the books or parents can come in and make their own selections. Many volunteers are needed to set up the books, help the children make their wish lists, point them to age appropriate material and help them find the books they would like to buy.

Box Tops/Online Cash

This is a great fundraiser with little work involved, and one that can be done at home. Volunteers collect box tops from the school. Box tops are cut, bundled and mailed out twice a year.  There are also opportunities to earn online cash through Amazon’s smile program, as well as relationships with other local merchants.

Family Photo

Pictures are taken according to scheduled appointments. Volunteers needed to hire a photographer and make the appointments.

Halloween Party

A fun-filled costume party for NSS families with games, decorated stage, crafts and treats. Usually held the weekend before Halloween. Many volunteers needed to plan the event, work the games and with set-up and take down.

Pancake Breakfast

A delicious breakfast prepared by volunteers usually held in November on a Saturday morning. Children are the “servers”. Volunteers needed to help set up, serve coffee and help with crafts and the bounce house.

Parent’s Spring Fling

This event takes place in the spring and is open to all parents and faculty. Volunteers coordinate the dance, decorate, and organize the food and entertainment.

Pizza Bingo

2-3 nights of fun-filled bingo playing that starts with a pizza dinner. Volunteers needed to  plan and run the event, and check “bingo cards.”

Plant Sale

At least 2 volunteers needed to order, prepare and market plants for sale outside the school in a tent for 2-3 days during the first week of May. There is also a pre-sale of flats of flowers, which are ordered by the coordinators after being sold to parents/teachers.

Spirit Day / PTA Appreciation

A school assembly held in June where children creatively express their love for NSS and appreciation of the volunteer efforts of the PTA through song.

Spirit Wear

Sweatshirts, T-shirts, car magnets and pants are sold with the NSS logo and are offered for purchase. Chairs can choose their own designs.

Welcome Committee

Welcomes new families to North Stratfield School by providing information, answering questions, organizing social welcoming events, and selling Change of Plan pads.

The major NSS fundraiser, which is held in the spring. The proceeds fund the majority of the PTA budget  with the majority used for the enrichment of NSS. Walk-a-thon proceeds have purchased video production equipment for the LLC.

A committee to take pictures of students and events and prepare a yearbook of photographs capturing classes, programs and events, with a special section highlighting the graduating class.
